Is that all there is? future operating systems and clusters
Abstract: It is now 15 years since the first Linux clusters were built, and in that time, Linux has made the journey from outlier to status quo. Are we done? Is our future one of watching the Ubuntu updates spin by on our cluster, while we are reduced to mindless automatons whose main goal is to hit 'accept'? In this talk, I'll argue that the answer is 'no', that in fact we are on the cusp of major changes in how we build HPC systems, and speculate on a post-Linux world.
